Topic One: Greek Mythology Today

Topic One (2010/9/13~9/20):
 Is Greek Mythology still
popular nowadays?

Greek mythology is pretty much alive today.  If we pay close attention to what we have been reading and watching, we would be able to identify characters, creatures, names, motifs, and story plot drawn from Greek mythology.  Let me just give a few examples here.

(1) In Happy Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book Two in the Harry Potter series),  Hermione and Colin were both petrified after looking into the eyes of the snake through reflections:  Hermione saw the image on the mirror, while Colin looked at the creature through his camera's lens.

Apparently, J.K. Rowling had Medusa in mind when conferring the petrifying ability on the snake: In Greek mythology, the snake-haired Medusa was able to turn everything in sight into a stone.  Rowling adapted the idea and echoed Perseus' attempt to behead Medusa by looking at the reflection on the shield!

(2) There are many movie adaptations from novels dwelling on classical Greek materials.  For example, the movies entitled "Odyssey," "Helen of Troy," and "Troy" (in which Brad Pitt led the cast).

Even in the great hit "Avatar," we also can also find the traces of Greek presence:  The name of the moon "Pandora" used to be the name for the first woman in Greek mythology. The idiom "Pandora's box," meaning "a source of troubles and misfortunes," is very fitting for the events to come in the sequels of  the movie "Avatar."

(3) During the summer vacation 2010, the movie entitled "Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief," adapted from the first book of Percy Jackson series, was in the theater worldwide. This is another example of the ever-presence of Greek mythology.

Discussion topics:
(Please focus on one of these questions.)

1. Why are children and teenagers still fascinated by Greek mythology?
2. Are adults also drawn to classical Greek literature, e.g., the Iliad and the Odyssey?
3. Why do writers still draw inspirations from Greek myths and tales in their creation of new stories?
4. Can we imagine our modern world deprived of Greek mythology?
5. Why is Greek mythology important in learning English language and western culture?

the topic i'm gonna choose is no.1
i think the reason why they are still fascinated is because the movie producers, script writers, authors know how to use modern settings, technologies, and by giving a lure to those mythology, with the advancement of Internet, teenagers like us will be able to find information with just a click, just like percy jackson, avatar, troy, clash of the titans, and many blockbusters
and that's why greek mythology still fascinates teenagers, and it will never get old-fashioned!!

  2. Hello,Vinia, I am Justin 99540307.
I want to talk about the topic no.5.
As a Taiwanese, I have learned and read a lot of Chinese mythology through my education process. The mythology help me have more understandings about my culture, which is tightly related to language learning. As a result, I think Greek mythology is also important for learning English as Chinese mythology for learning Chinese. Take the English word roots for example. The meaning of a word can be traced back to a person's name in Greek mythology. The similarity between Tantalus and Tantalation is the example. If I have the basis of Greek mythology, I will memorize new words more quickly than before. Moreover, these stories are often cited in English novels or revised to be movies. Greek mythology is everywhere so that the learning for it is also important now. It can enrich my background of western culture and help my English to be better at the same time!!

I want to talk about the topic no.3.
I have been read the Mythology recently,
I found out that this book has full of mystery, and it has a lot of great advanture,
it also have some unexpected things in the story.
so I think writers still draw inspirations from Greek myths and tales in their creation of new stories
is because people are always fascinated by these stories,
inlucding myself齁. Writers can change the style of the story and make it more attractive.
Their inspiratiobs are from the Greek mythology because these story are very unique. However,
most of the creations are based from a very simple but easy to express the feelings(In my viewpoint),
because whenever I trying to play a new theme with my guitar, I always embark on the most simple melody.

  4. Hi, I'm Chloe, 99540305. I'd like to answer question number 1. As a teenager, I am fascinated by greek mythologies. One of the reasons is because their behaviors and emotions reflects our own but with a much more powerful twist. For example, when Zeus is angry, he could use the lightning bolt to tell the world; but as mortals the most we can do is to have a fit. I think another reason is that greek mythologies are often easy to be adapted into action stories and movies, which can really capture the attention of many kids. While the characters in these type of literature are often special, their "magic" powers leads to endless of imaginations. In conclusion, people of all ages love greek mythologies!

Greek mythologies are interesting, they attract people, people are curious about the Greek mythology, and Greek mythology can be used in many places.
Just like other classic stories, Greek mythology is very popular, it really doesn't get boring, so maybe that's why writers still keep write something about Greek mythology.

  6. Hello! I'm Robert 99540313. I'm gonna talk about the topic no.4. If our world were deprived of Greek mythology, it would be a disaster and I can barely imagine how it would be like. Because The fascinating paintings, literatures, and movies we've enjoyed so much today would not exist. And what would happen? We could not know what the Greek’s life is by the paintings not to mention to their culture. We would not have deeper knowledge to English language and literature because Greek mythology is a part of heritage of the ancient and we all have learned much from it. Besides, we would not be inspired by it to create something interesting and exciting to combine with modern things and our sense of imagination would went weak. And the writers of many masterpieces wouldn’t have written them that have has a great influence on our modern lives. In conclusion, Greek mythology has always played an important role in many cultural fields, and it is very hard to imagine the world without Greek mythology.

  7. Hi, I am Dorris 99540327, I’d like to answer question 3.
    In my opinion,
I think that because people do not have the magical power
,Greek myths always give us spaces to image.
Romantic plots are pretty attractive for people to read, especially to teengagers.
Besides, even the story is a tragedy, with our sympathy to those who encountered something bad,
it also can draw a lot of people to read.
Nowadays , we are still enchanted by these stories and which are still popular worldwide,
these reasons cause writers still to draw inspirations from Greek myths in their creation.

  8. Hello, I'm Rebecca 99540309
I'd like to answer question 1.
Frankly speaking, I was not interested in Greek Mythology at all before. I thought it was sort of boring and ancient literature. Why we need to study? During this summer vacation, I saw "Percy Jackson". Surprisingly, I was intrigued by the mysterious and adventurous plot. Spontaneously, I bought the original book and soon immersed myself in it. The reason why I'm deeply fascinated is that I can identify with the characters. Gods are all like we human beings, having obvious emotions and complicated relationships. Since I like gossip, Greek Mythology can totally satisfy what I want. It's like reading ancient "Gossip Girl", filling with wonder, misery and tragedy. People can enter this amazing world without any effort because it's close to our daily life. That's why Greek Mythology is omnipresent.

By the way, if you like "Harry Potter", I bet that you will fall in love the "Percy Jackson" as soon as you open the book. Hope everyone enjoys it.

  9. Hello, I am Serena. 99540344.
I'd like to share my opinion about question 1.
In fact, I was not interested in Greek Mythology before just like Rebecca. Even in the first class, I just felt very terrible when I thought that I should read and even remember the details about the Gods. But when I started reading the book, I am attracted by these stories. This is the first time that I find that some western cultures are related to Greek mythology. More suprisingly, some Gods have two different names, and most of their names have special meaning. These are the reasons why teenagers and children are fascinated by Greek mythology. There must be much more reasons, I can just name a few. But one sure thing is that the more you read, the more interesting things you will find.

Nowadays, many writers still use Greek myths to be the base of their story.I think it is because that most people are very familiar with Greek mythology.Somethime, it is easy to get responses cause mythology is easy to understand.Just as many books written in Chinses will use fables or parables to be the foundation of the book. Moreover, there are many important and meaningful messages in Greek myths so writers can ues these simple idea to develop their own stories.Besides, the gods in Greek myths are special. They have emotins including love and hate so people will think they are close to the real life. All in all, Greek myths is very an crucial part whenever writers need to think about a new idea of their new books.

  12. Hello,i am Lilian 99540351.I'd like to answer question 4.
Can we imagine our modern world deprived of Greek mythology?
If Greek mythology is taken out from our modern life, our life will be dull and boring.
In my opinion, I think Greek mythology is important to us.
Nowadays, most of the people have to work and study under pressure, and some of the daily work is quite routine.Greek mythology gives room for imagination and cogitative. Some of the wonderful power of those Greek Gods makes 'impossible' to happen.I believe this is a mean to escape from the reality.
Or, it provides a break for ourselves to balance ourselves mentally. Therefore, it is difficult to imagine our world deprived of it.See the examples given above, like Happy Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Avar, Percy Jackson. All these books and movies are fascinated by people. It shows people love and need the mysterious Greek mythology.
Moreover, Greek mythology is the heritage from the distant past. We can have more understanding of the western culture from those myths. That's why Greek mythology should be promoted in our modern world.

  13. Good evening Vinia, I'm Andy Lo 99540314.
I'm pleasure to share my opinion about question 1.
In my opinion, the reasons why many children and teenagers still fascinated by mythology in the mordern days are that the Greek mythology is quite mysterious, beautiful ,and grand. Everyone will be charmed by its beautiful scene after appreciating it. Of the second reason, here comes a great novel and was also be filmed into movie─--Percy Jackson. Because the movie included many stories of the Greek mythology and narrated it in a funny way, many teenagers inclusive of the adults are attracted. Last but not least ,in virtue of the rich imagination from children and teenagers, they could easily be enchanted by the world of the mythology.
    Thanks for your watching!!!

I want to answer the question no.1.
I started to know Greek mythology when I was in elementary school. Greek mythology is filled with mysterious color. It attracts me so much and it has a lot of stories. Why children and teenagers still fascinated by it? I think it has a lot of stories. First, every story has its special meaning. Second, it makes a lot of people think we can do anything that we can imagine. Third, some stories relate to love, wars and etc. I think these stories can attract many children and teenagers to read them. Finally, it can let us know its history and paintings. Because of its mythology, we can try to understand Greek.

    I'm Amy,99540348.
I want to answer Question 1:Why are children and teenagers still fascinated by Greek mythology?

Answer: Because children like to explore things which are a little mysterious. Therefore, Greek mythology is definitely their best choice. Also, there’s much room left for children to imagine. Actually, learning Greek mythology gives us a lot of advantages. One of them is to learn the use of the words. But in my personal opinion, don’t take Greek mythology too seriously. Because, after all, we don’t know where it comes from. However, for children, learning is very beneficial to them, we should try to help them learn as much as they can. Maybe they can read can an easier edition while they are young.

  16. Hi everyone, I am Rain(99540339). Today, let's get to the topic no.4. Can we imagine our modern world deprived of Greek mythology? that's a good question. If anyone asked me about this, I would definitely say "Yes, we can" like the African-American president does. Contrary to what many people think, my answer seems to be a great offense, and without Greek mythology, it seems to be a great lost and life would be dull. But the fact is there is still other civilizations on the world, and every one has its mythology. Did acient Chinese, Indian, Mayan, and Egyptian live with those funny Greek mythology? Exactly NO! But their culture still thrive. Without Greek mythology, what would happen to this modern age? There is two answers to this. The one is : Just to change some appearance on European culture, and it may be a better change. And the two is: it will alleviate our pressure on study.

  17. Hello,I'm Mina Chang 99540346.
I'd like to talk about question one. Because we don't know much about Greek mythology and there are many incredible creatures in it. And why can it catch our attention? As for me, I'm always interested in unknown and mysterious things! And I believe everyone does. As a result, we can have a lot of fun when exploring in the world of Greek mythology. That's why children and teenagers are still fascinated by it. For example,J.K. Rowling wants to draw everyboby's interest in her book(Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets)by using the image of snake-haired Medusa who has appalling ability. It turns out to be successful because we can't find such creature and ability in our real world. And maybe that's why the book becomes a bestseller in every bookstore.

  18. Hi, I'm Jane, 99540347. I'd like to answer question 1. To be honest, I've never read Greek mythology before I take this course, so I thought it would make me fall asleep if I read it, but I was wrong. I think it’s hard for me to stop reading after I start to read. Maybe it has magic that would make you stuck in the story. I've read Harry Potter series and seen the movies Avatar and Percy Jackson. I think the reason why teenagers still fascinated by Greek mythology is that those books or movies are not only historical stories but they include lots of new elements. The authors integrated some Greek mythology into their works to make them more attractive. Audiences might want to understand Greek mythology deeply after they read the books or seen the movies. I think it not only attracts children and teenagers but all age people.

  19. Hello Vinia!!! I’m Grace Wei, 99540334
I would like to answer the question 5. Why is Greek mythology important in learning English language and western culture?

There are two reasons on the following: first, when it comes to the territory of the empire and the concept of the thinking, Greece and Rome were the main countries in Europe in ancient times. In addition, Greek culture is the roof of western culture so when we read the stories from Greek mythology, we will get much more connection and familiarity. Second, there were so many dramatic romances and heroes who fought against monsters with brave, which interests people to read and want to realize what happened in the past. Because of curiosity, through reading Greek mythology, we can not only enhance our reading comprehension but also learn many new words from it.

  20. Hello, vinia. I'm Irene,99540349.
I'd like to answer question one.
First, Greek mythology can let adult imagine what we won't do or couldn't do in reality. For example, in true life, we don’t have ability to make a beautiful woman named Pandora just like goods. And the words are seems to have magic that people can feel the characters’ emotion and motion and the scene in the book. Children are able to dream about the world by words or pictures. In this way, their inspiration and creativity will be cultivated in the young age. Second, Greek mythology is symbolic of west literature being similar to some West culture and history. So it has good use for the person who wants to know about the Western. Last but not least , Mythology also make people imagine that God may be not perfect.

I would like to talk about question no.3.
I think Greek Mythology is a wonderful story which is full of fantasy.
Its content is related to powerful gods and goddesses and it also contains a lot of issues.
For instant, love, marriage, Oedipus complex ,and so on.
Each story in Greek Mythology can make readers have some ideas and opinions in their minds.
    It's especially for writers.
Writers will get more ideas because they are more sensitive when they're reading.
Another reason is that Greek Mythology is fantastic so writers can add more their elements into their stories.

Question No.5 is really important to those who choose English as their major. Sometimes I think the Greek mythology is quite boring and I have to remember so many characters and their different attributes. After taking the course, I really found that Western cultures have something to do with Greek mythology. Slangs, idioms, and some special terms are all from the Greek mythology. Take Achilles’ heel for example, it means that it’s a small fault or weakness in a person or system that can result in its failure. This kind of expression has been used for several years. It surely proved that if we want to learn English language, Greek mythology is a requirement. Not only can it increase our sense of language but enlarge our background knowledge.

When I had the first class in Western Literature and Culture, I thought that I was neither familiar with nor interested in Greek Mythology. So, I am very afraid of falling behind to my classmates, but when Vinia who clearly told the story about Greek Mythology, I found that I understand a little bit stories! I recalled that I had been seen the cartoon about Greek Mythology when I was a child. (Official website-->http://www.my-cartoon.com.tw/Olympus_Goddian/index.htm) I think this is the first step that I am fascinated by Greek Mythology. Nowadays, many children and teenagers like to see the movies or read the novels. Just like me, I have been seen the movie of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. People were petrified if they looked into the eyes of the snake through reflections. J.K. Rowling took the material from Greek mythology and used them wisely. This let the story more attractive! Now, I am fascinated by Greek Mythology, just like other people, I know we can fall in love with it.

  24. Hello, Vinia. I'm Avis, 99540335.
I'd like to talk about question No.1.
In my opinion, I think the reason why Greek mythology is always popular with young people is beacause its mystery, imagination, vividness, and familiarity. Because we are unable to trace the oringin and the authenticity of Greek myth, it always keeps mysterious and room for imagination. Then, all the characters in Greek myth own their emotion and distinctive personality traits. When reading the story, all the love affairs, wars, and revenge are so vivid as they are played in front of our eyes. Besides, we often hear the names from Greek mythology, such as Pandora, Zeus, or Hercules. Nonetheless, most of people don't really know the story behind these figures. Accordingly, out of curiosity, they may read through the story to understand the origin and maybe they will be fascinated by the story from then on.

Greek Mythology is full of imagination and creativity. Goddess and God are all reacting like human beings. They have verious felling. They can feel angry, jealous or happy. We are not sure if they are really exist or not. However, many paintings or writings are telling us a lot of stories about them so that they made us to believe that they are real. As I am a teenager, I like Greek Mythology which tells me a lot about a different world from our reality. In fact, if it is not for the books or movies, teenagers wouldn't know so much about Greek Mythology.

And also the gods of these mythologies all have emotions. They can feel happy, they can feel jealous just like human beings. These elements satisfy children and teenagers’ imagination. I think why children and teenagers still fascinated by Greek mythology is because the stories are full of imagination and mystery. The stories have some mysterious powers which are interesting. For example, Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war, is very smart and good at using strategy. Zeus has a powerful weapon, thunderbolts. These imaginations make children and teenagers are indulged in the Greek mythology and dream of being one of them in the stories. When those children grow up and become writers, many of their stories are inspired by Greek mythology. Because Greek mythology includes a lot of interesting materials, the writers can apply it into their own works.

Greek Myths are dramatic and easy to attract people's attention. In Greek tales, there are a lot of characters and each of them has specialy or symbolizes some meanings. I think why writers draw inspirations from Greek Myths are (1)to draw people's attention (2)arise people's curiosity about what the new story is and what it will be like after adding these inspirations from Greek Myths.

But, this time, I read it carefully and patiently, I found that it is very romantic. I think that why Greek methology is so fascinated by teenagers and childerns is because it makes some girls feel that they were in love when they are watching it. Another reason is that Greek methology is filled with smazing and special stories. It leads you into an ancient world, and feel the beauty of their stories. There always are heroes who safed the world, also, there are some selfish men who ruin the happy time. Just like our world. People read it to satisfy themselves, to relaze themselves and to enjoy themslves. These are my opinions about this qustion. Thanks!

I would like to give my opinion on Question 1.
For me ,a teenager ,The Greek Mythology is a kind of science fiction book. Every character has a magic power in different aspects, and the events that happened in Greek Myths also cannot be explained by science, such as the Pandora’s Box, how could devils hide in a beautiful and decorative golden box? The plot just likes the bad souls or ghosts should be locked in a jug which has a charm stack on its lid in Chinese custom. And I think that is the point why Greek Myths are so attractive by children and teenagers. We are reading a so-called sci-fi story!!! Never feel tedious.

I think maybe they sit on the top of a very high mountain where they can look down and see everything that is going on in the earth beneath. So, whenever we call their names, it might thunder. If they have a fight with each other, it might have a hurricane. Moreover, they often come down to earth, so maybe there are many hybrids, gods and mortals' children, around us. The story about Greek mythology is not only interesting but mysterious that we can only know them in the book. I think those reason are why children and teenagers fascinate in Greek mythology.

  43. Hello, Vinia. I'm Nancy 99540350.
I want to answer question No. 1.

In high school, I also have this course. In the beginning, I don't like Greek Mythology. Because I felt it is very boring and tedious. Afterward, I slowly realized how interesting it is.
Greek mythology is full of mystery and imagination space, and each story has their meaning. There are too many the plots that we humans can’t to do, so we can imagine so enjoy. For these reasons, we will revel in Greek mythology.

  44. Hello Vinia :)
    I'm Annie,99540330.
I would like to answer the question 1, "Why are children and teenagers still fascinated by Greek mythology?"
Actually, I am not interested in Greek Mythology before because I think it is a little bit complicated for me. After listening to your introduction in Greek
mythology, I begin to be curious about this course. Greek Mythology is filled with imagination. There are talking about Gods'power, adventure, love story and so on.
Though we don't live in the past,we can still know the origin of Europe. Nowadays, many novels and movies which are adapted to Greek Mythology attract our attention. This is because people enjoy exploring and have curiosity about anything interesting.
Also, children are inspired and mythology make them creative. I belive, in the future days, I will be crush on Greek mythology.

  45. Hello Vinia, I am Betty 99540322.
I'd like to answer question 1.
Being a teenager, I've been deeply drawn by Harry Potter. Of course I've seen Percy Jackson: The Lightening Thief. Both are great movies and I think it's because they are related to Greek mythology. I mean what happenes in the movies, that is, happens in Greek mythology, won't happen in our real world. Monsters won't suddenly dash toward you trying to bite you, human beings can't transform into other types like the Gods do, and snakes definitely don't have the ability of turning people into stones.
Maybe that's why Greek mythology attracts children and teenagers, perhaps some adults, so much. Those exciting things don't exist in this world; however, they can add some colors to our life, making it not so boring. Reading is fun, especially what you read is exciting and dramatic. I guess that's the reason whay teenagers and children like Greek mythology so much.

  46. Hi I am Yuka (99540352) and want to answer question #3.

I think Greek myths are not just stories about Gods and their powers. In the stories, Gods and their powers are introduced in few sentences. Important parts of Greek myths are the human relationships. These stories are about people. Gods are mighty and great, but they are people. They have human reactions and they use their powers in human purposes. I think this is why writers still draw inspirations from Greek myths, because we can understand them. No matter how much power we have, how much money we have, or how smart we are. Everyone has human problems. Writers like to use Greek myths because they are good life examples. People like to read stories about their lives.

I want to answer the question no.2.

There are many reasons why adults are also drawn to classical Greek literature, e.g., the Iliad and the Odyssey. Greek mythology is full of many beautiful romance and love affairs that make us fascinated, for example, the admirable and sincere love between Odyssey and his wife, Hector and his wife, and so on. They satisfy our imagination and expectation toward love.

In addition, there are also many lessons that adults can learn from the Greek mythology. For example, the Achilles' wrath in Illiad warns us that anger can easily blind our mind and let us make irreparable mistakes.

The great adventures also attract adults. Every adult has a child inside. Although they have already grown up, they can still imagine themselves heros when they read the Greek mythology.

  49. Hi, Vinia. I'm Nina 99540315
I'd like to anwser question 1:
Why are children and teenagers still fascinated by Greek mythology?

I can still remember that when my high school teacher was telling one of the story in Greek mythology, everyone was attracted and concentrated. As for me, a teenager, why i am fascinated by Greek mythology is that it is somehow match my imagination of the ancient world. Besides, the stories are not only the narrations describing the ancient lives of gods but have profound meanings for us to figure out. What's more, sometimes, we can surprisedly develop our own philosophy of life while we are figuring out the answers. Therefore, i am so sure to say that Greek mythology is timeless and I can't wait to know more about it!

I would like to answer question number 2.

    2. Are adults also drawn to classical Greek literature, e.g., the Iliad and the Odyssey?

Yes they are. I think there is roughly three reasons for that.
First, even adults have their own fantacy and dream. So when reading Greek literature, adults can feel a sense of satisfaction because they can go into a wonder land which they are dreaming in mind.

Second, when adults read these Greek literature , they would remind their childhood memeory for they used to read these great literature works.

Third, Many Greek mythology’s characters were god and goddess.
However, they act and think like human. They make mistakes. They are not perfect. From mythology, adults can learn many lessons from that. In order to avoid bad situations happening in life.

  52. Hello,Vinia!I'm Diana 99540328.
I'd like to answer the question 1:Why are children and teenagers still fascinated by Greek mythology?

We are fascinated by Greek mythology because those stories are full of creations, and it can also arouse our imaginations.

I've never read Greek mythology before. When I first open this book, I'm so eager to read all of them.

Although the character inside are Gods, they have all kinds of feelings such as love, hate, envy, forgiveness, and so on. But the most
important reason I think is because we are just like the characters. Reading these stories, we can find out that they have familiarity
    with us.
    They all make mistakes!

We want to know about them just like we want to understand other people.

  55. Hello Vinia, I'm 99540319.
    I chose question number 4.
Can we imagine our modern world deprived of Greek mythology?

I think Greek mythology has always played a crucial part in our life.
Without Greek mythology, many cultures and languages wouldn't have developed so well and quick. And besides the influences on the cultures, it is also one of the earlist forms of mythology and novel. That's why a large part of stories were based on Greek mythology.

Nowadays, because of the wide spread of Greek mythology, people tend to use the names in the stories to name their new discoveries, so that people can remember them better, without culture gap.

  56. Hi Vinia, I am Eva, 99540308.
I would like to answer the question five: why is Greek mythology important in learning English language and western culture?

In my opinion, I think the mythology of Greek or Roman is a literature treasure that left by the ancient people. Every story also tells something about what the ancient people thought in the early Greek. For example, if we want to learn Chinese, first, we have to read the origin and the story about it in order to comprehend the Chinese thoroughly. Therefore, I think everyone can not only learn western culture by Greek reading mythology but also know more things from every story written by the ancestors.

I choose questuin 1 " Why are children and teenagers still fascinated by Greek mythology? "

In my opinion, Greek mythology can give the imaginary space. When we are reading it, we'll imagine that as if we are one of the characters. Another reason that makes Greek mythology so fascinating is that the characters in the stories are like human beings, even though they are gods, they still have human emotions. If they are unattainable, I thinnk Greek mythology will not be as popular as it is now.

I choose quesiton 1 to answer.
I think the reason why children and adults like Greek mythology not only because the story's contents are very fascinating, but also because they are closely linked to our lives. Some people believed that these stories exactly exist in the world, but some think they just exist in our imagination, but these stories really add lots of color to our daily life.
I'm also the person who is enchanted by the Greek mythology. Although there are so many names I have to remember, I'll still appreciate these lovely stories in delight.

    question 5

I believe it is true that the language of a people and its culture are closely interralated. Thus, if you want to fully understand a certain culture you need to be sufficient in the language that this culture exists in, and vice versa (if you want to successfully learn a certain language you need to know something about its culture). The origin of the western civilizations are traced back to the Greeks and the Romans. As much influence as those empires had on the developement of other European societies, it is only natural that this important part of Greek's cultural heritage is known and treasured throuought the western world and a large number of metaphors derived from the stories of the Greek mythology are found in all European languages, including English.
Ergo, if you a a student of the English language it can only be helpful to know a few things about Greek mythology.

  60. Hello, I'm Neo, and my student ID is 98540451. I'm going to talk about question 1.

Nowadays, why people still fascinated by Greek mythology? Whether the myths are true or not, they have become classics in people's minds. Not only the stories, but also the allusions are still cited today. Besides, another reason is that the myths hav been handed down for thousands years. No matter how the latest version will change, the essence of them is everlasting. For instance, we can see many of movies, novels or games citing the Greek mythology. I think people like the myths because of their colorful plots. And if some compositions cite the allusions coming from them, most people could understand what they are talking about. I hope I can read more masterpieces and realize them.

  61. Hello Vinia. I'm Grace. 97540456.
I'm going to talk about question 5.

I think language is intertwined with culture. Greek mythology is one of the long-lasting rooted cultures in west countries. And culture, shaping the way we are thinking and behaving, is an indivisible part of life.

Learning a language is not all about memorizing vocabularies and grammar. If we really want to master a language, we have to take a close look at their culture so that we can know better the thinking model of west people. That’s why cross-culture communication has become a critical issue in terms of a successful communication or negotiation.

I'd like to answer question no.1. Why are children and teenagers still fascinated by Greek mythology?
well i think the reason why children and teenagers still like greek mythology is because the stories are very fascinating, and nowadays, many fiction novels authors put some parts of the greek mythology stories into their book, so and later on became very popular among both children and teenagers. And also, there're lots of things in our daily life which are related to greek mythology, so many that are beyond our imagination, books, signs, roads...etc, so i think it is not a surprise that even in the 21 century, people are still fascinated by the story in Greek mythology.

  64. In regards to question number one,

In my opinion, children and teenagers are extremely fascinated in mythologies because they are at an age in which their imaginations are limitless. They can dream and think anything they want without "education" to interfere with their imaginations. Mythology is full of magic and spells which are real and achievable in real life, therefore it is greatly worshiped by the youngsters.
